Steve’s passion for ministry is rooted in the person and purpose of Jesus Christ and in bridging the gap between personal faith and social engagement. He brings the gift of leadership to his ministry settings.  Steve currently serves as the Pastor/Head of Staff for Geneva Presbyterian Church of Laguna Woods, California. Steve’s life and ministry demonstrate a deep commitment to evangelism. His dedication to discipleship and his love of teaching the Bible are equally important priorities in his ministry.

Steve responded to God’s regenerative work in his life by saying “yes” to Jesus as Savior and Lord during seventh grade Communicants Class. His Pastor recognized potential for ministry and helped Steve discern God’s call to ordained ministry through a close discipleship. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from California State University, Fresno, Steve began his theological studies at Fuller Theological Seminary where he received his Master of Divinity degree. The final year of his Master of Divinity was completed at Princeton Theological Seminary. Steve’s quest for knowledge continued at San Francisco Theological Seminary, culminating in a Doctor of Ministry degree. Most recently he completed a Master of Philosophy degree at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Steve’s academic pursuits have focused on historical theology, Reformed theology and John Calvin’s theology of salvation with a particular emphasis on his view of conversion.

Steve has served as a member and chairperson of various Presbytery committees. He currently serves on Strategic Coordinating Team (SCT) in the Presbytery of Los Ranchos. Steve also served as Moderator of the Presbytery of Southern Kansas in 2010. In addition, he is an active member of the Rotary Club of Mission Viejo and Saddleback Valley Kiwanis in Laguna Woods.

Steve’s hobbies include golf, baseball card collecting, exercising and reading. He is joined by his wife, Janet, who has been a source of strength and blessing. They have journeyed together through 40 years of a married life full of joys and challenges. Janet has always found her own place in ministry, participating in church activities and classes, handbell choir and entertaining in their home. She enjoys golf, water aerobics, sewing and painting.

Steve and Janet have three children (six if you count spouses!) who have filled their lives with joy. Colin, 36, (married to Becca) lives in Wichita, Kansas and works as an engineer. Karis, 32, (married to Brian Gensch) lives in Wichita, KS and works as a graphic designer and owner of Genschies, a home bakery business. Rob, 28, (married to Rebecca) lives in Morristown, New Jersey and works as a consultant with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Janet and Steve are blessed that all “six” love the Lord Jesus Christ. They are also the proud grandparents of Breckyn Marsh, Carson Marsh, Avery Marsh, Tevy Gensch, Emsley Gensch and Sadie Gensch.

  1. Steve,
I remember you at Bel Aire when i was going there with my sister, Mary Erickson-wish you were somewhere closer so I could hear you again.

  2. Steve – finally found you. You have been part of my story for many years now. When I joined Bel Air in 1990, I remember your class. I was shocked that such a smart young man stood up in front of the whole class and said he thought every word of the Bible was true! You were nuts and I was shocked. Little did I know that God was changing my heart and would be giving me the most wonderful intellectual challenge of my life. I now facilitate (first heard that from Bonnie Green) Bible studies in my church and thank God for his marvelous Word.
Thank you for being the man God used. See you someday… Burma (Jeffries) Chase

  3. Hi Steve,
You married my husband and I at Bel air in 1992. Just wanted to say hello. We have three beautiful children ages 19, 17 and 10. While we don’t still attend Bel Air because we moved we did go to a Christmas eve service there last year to show our kids where we got married. Anyway, I ‘m glad you are doing well and if we are ever in Oklahoma we will look you up.

    • Great to hear from you Paris. It was my privilege to perform your wedding. You and Russ are amazing people. And your children are really growing up. Where are you living now?

  4. Dr. Marsh; You renewed my personal joy in being a Christian….the joy that makes me want to give Jesus to someone…in the form of a word of encouragement….listening to them….helping them find help providing their needs. You have helped me to have passion for Jesus…not just intellectually….but with my heart and whole being. Thank you, wonderful Pastor……

  5. Surprised to see you are back in California. I just looked up Gary Wilburn and was shocked to see he had died in 2010. We are getting up there. I have had Lung Cancer twice, 1998 and 2013 but am still going strong and live in Phoenix.

    • Good to hear from you. We’ve been back since October 2014. I’m glad you are recovering from cancer. Is it in some form of remission?
